Vancouver, WA – Spring & Summer 2007—

The Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB) Library underwent a huge renovation in order to add new books, redefine the educational focus and create a more user friendly space.  All of the library sections were scrutinized over in order to pare out our aged and treasured items as well as retire books not used by our PreK-12 students.

The creation of a new Rare Book Room enabled our most beloved copies a place to protectively rest their pages away from the more oftPicture: Rare book room shuffled books.  This has been a special treat for those that wander into home of retro Braille formatted plays by Shakespeare, early Rudyard Kipling and Depression era books by Louisa May Alcott.

Most notably, the new library system has involved a careful integration of audio, braille and print products.  So to keep our patrons on the track of finding useful media, the braille, print and audio partners can now be found side-by-side in the shelf.  For example:
