Calendar Math for September

 

Middle School

This is a daily warm-up for students to review old skills and introduce new skills. Each student works with the same partner for a month. The students complete their assigned activity and report the information to the class. The teams rotate activities weekly. Nemeth notation is also exercised within all the activities.


    Daily Pattern/data – students determine the factors of the date and categorize by number of factors with the color of the card. (skills: mathematical patterns, factorization, multiplication skills, data collection)

    Daily Measurement – using the protractor students take the measurement of an angle, label the angle in degrees and type (right, obtuse, or acute). (skills: using math tools, geometry)

    Daily Deposit/variable – students use the following formula to determine the daily deposit.
d = daily deposit, t = total deposit from the previous day equation: 0.10t = d (skills: number sense, money, base 10, percents, and algebra)

    Daily Array – Students use the date to configure as many rectangle/squares that can be made. Then they determine the area and perimeter of each picture. (skills: factorization, geometry)
